The problem is the bacterial plaque
The plaque is a white, sticky substance that adheres to your teeth. It is made of bacteria, food and saliva. If the plaque is left on your teeth and round the Braces it can couse inflamation in the gums with eventual bleeding, bad breath, permanent marks on your teeth and caries. Plaque can also turn your teeth yellowish. Do not allow any of these things to happen. be your smile's best friend having a toothbrush on a periodical basis an above all prpperly (aprox. from 5 to 5 times a day when wearing Braces)
When and how to have a toothbrushing?
You must use the brush and technique recommended by your dentist. Have a toothbrushing after each meal and also if you eat something between meals, specially if it was sticky or sweet. If you cannot toothbrush in that moment, make sure that at least you have a strong watering until the moment you can toothbrush. The best advice it to take a brush whenever you go and avoid missing toothbrushing.
It is very important that you have a deep cleaning at least 3 times a day This wiil take more time than usual, so it is recommended to do it febore each main meal and definately before going to bed. It consists of a normal toothbrushing plus a deep toothbrushing between each brace with the interdentel little toothbrush. And make sure the teeth get perfectly clean and white. Remember our RULE toothbrush - water - look The interdental toothbrush is an excellent aid to get a perfect hygiene.
The dental thread is also very important. Maybe at the beginning it is difficult to use, but with some practice you will do it.
Remove even the minimal plaque and deposits of food from all the faces of your teeth (front, back, between) and from all the Braces. Also pay attention to clean your gums to keep them firm and healthy.
In case it gets hard for you to have a correct thoothbrushing, ask oyur dentist and he will help you improve your technique. Maybe he recommends a special mouthwashing for you.
After having the toothbrushing you must water the teeth and Braces strongly. Make the water wash all around your mouth.
Then, examine your teeth and Braces carefully making sure they are free from plaque. Do this looking in a close, well-lighted mirror. This is very important because you cannot feel the plaque but you can do see it if you pay attention.
You must brush and water perhaps 2 or 3 times in that moment until you make sure there is no plaque on your teeth and Braces. This may sound tiring and difficult, but think that you want your teeth white and healthy for the rest of your life.
